Pruden’s Purple
Big disputes on whether it is better than Brandywine as the best flavored heirloom tomato. Pruden’s is not really purple, but rather a deep pink with slight shoulder ribbing and a silken texture and rich tomato taste, nicely tart with a balanced undertone of sweetness neither insipid nor cloying. It is early for its size and makes a great sandwich tomato. Fruits are large, often close to 1 lb each, but smaller with a more refined shape than Brandywine and without the hard core. Plants have potato-shaped leaves. 12-16 oz tomatoes – Indeterminate.
